Across five Saturday sessions, this live online seminar invites Queer leaders, educators, and allies to explore the history of Queer cinema and deepen their understanding of the collective trauma and cultural identity represented through film. Using a framework called Cinematic Marginalia, participants will study ten landmark films, engage in personal writing and small group discussion, and examine the lens through which Queer stories have been told (and suppressed) throughout cinema history.

This seminar is for anyone looking to better understand how film has shaped internalized Queer phobia, cultural bias, and representation, whether you are a Queer leader seeking deeper self-understanding, a school counselor working with students in both dominant and marginalized positions, or a straight educator committed to becoming a more conscious and effective ally. The seminar culminates in a short personal presentation on a Queer actor, director, or film that has shaped your understanding of Queer representation.
